ABOUT PROGRAMME

The Department of Economics at our institution is a vibrant hub of academic excellence that combines theoretical foundations with practical insights. Established with the vision of nurturing future economists, the department has consistently excelled in fostering intellectual growth, critical thinking, and real- world application of economic principles.

The Department is Headed by Dr Monikantan S Nair and ably assisted by experienced faculty members Mr Sonu Rane, Dr Saswati Mohanty, and Ms Vaishnavi Vadia. The department is dedicated to equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in dynamic economic landscapes. With a strong focus on research, skill development, and interactive learning, the department prepares students to tackle contemporary economic challenges effectively.

The department actively organizes workshops, competitions, and industrial visits to enhance students' practical knowledge. Through a blend of academic rigor and extracurricular activities, we aim to shape multi-talented personalities in the field of Economics, who can contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

  • Live Budget Sessions (July 2024 and 1st February 2025)- Offering a comprehensive analysis of the Union Budgets 2024 and 2025 and its economic implications- 163 and 225 students participated respectively.
  • Arth Utsav 2024(23rd July 2024)- An intercollegiate economic festival blending intellectual discourse with engaging competitions-54 students of UG and PG Economics participated.
  • Essay Writing Competition (29th July 2024)- Encouraging critical thinking on Union Budget policies.
  • A session on Indian Economy & Taxation: In the context of Union Budget 2024(24th August,2024)- Offering a comprehensive analysis of the Union Budgets 2024 and 2025 and its economic implications- 163 and 225 students participated respectively.
  • Workshop on Data Analysis (16th & 23rd August)- Enhancing data interpretation skills for research.
  • International Economics Convention 2024(12th,13th &14th December 2024)- Our students excelled in representing Australia and earned prestigious awards- Our Student Ms. Vibha Dave won the prestigious Best Overall Presenter Award.
  • Practical session on Mutual Fund Investment(18th January 2025)- Equipping students with financial literacy skills-110 students participated.
  • Prospera 2025: Eco Carnival (27th &28th January,2025)- A vibrant Intra Collegiate platform for combining learning with fun activities.
  • Bibliography Session (19th December 2024)- Focused on improving students' research skills and citation techniques by our Librarian Mrs.Sonali Karekar.
  • Industrial Visit (7th February 2025) - Providing students with practical exposure to industry practices and economic applications- this time we visited Yusuf Meherally Centre, Panvel and visited Imagica as well- 78 students participated.
  • Know Your Economy Test 05/02/25)- Enhancing students' understanding of India's economic framework and financial literacy- Organised by SRAEF(Chennai) 80 students took part.
  • International Initiatives Cell (3rd February 2025)- The International Initiatives Cell, in collaboration with the IQAC and the Department of Economics, organised a session on "Global Career in Economics and Employability" by Dr. Aditya Kuvalekar, offering insights into career opportunities and essential skills for students.
  • Farewell Function- A Grand Farewell Function was organised for the outgoing TYBA Economics And MA PART-II Students of Economics by the Department of Economics on 10th March 2025.
