Abstract:
The rapid growth of e-commerce in India has brought about numerous opportunities for businesses to reach wider markets and for consumers to access a diverse range of products and services. However, alongside this growth, concerns about environmental sustainability and social responsibility have emerged. This study delves into the sustainability practices adopted by e-commerce companies operating in India, aiming to understand their strategies, motivations, and challenges in integrating sustainable practices into their operations. The study seeks to identify the range of sustainability practices implemented by e-commerce companies, including efforts to reduce carbon emissions, optimize packaging, promote ethical sourcing, and support community engagement initiatives. Additionally, it examines the drivers behind the adoption of these practices, such as regulatory pressures, consumer demand, and corporate values. Furthermore, the research investigates the barriers and challenges faced by e-commerce companies in implementing sustainable practices, such as cost implications, logistical complexities, and organizational resistance. By providing a comprehensive analysis of sustainability practices within the Indian e-commerce sector, this study contributes to our understanding of the role that businesses play in addressing environmental and social challenges. The findings offer insights for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and consumers seeking to promote sustainability within the e-commerce ecosystem, ultimately contributing to more responsible.
